Texture Tuesday | Adoption Update, April 2, 2013

When we originally decided to adopt, we started with our agency in Tennessee.  Heaven Sent Children’s has been beyond a blessing, and we met them just at the right moment.  We were still undecided about if we would adopt domestically from Tennessee or adopt internationally through South Korea.  We stayed on this duel path for quite awhile, until a few weeks ago.

From the beginning, we just wanted a family.  We just wanted to be parents to the baby that God has chosen for us, but the more we prayed and the more we worked with our adoption agency, we have decided that adopting domestically in the US is really the best choice for our family.  We had been getting different news almost daily about changing policies and regulations with adopting in South Korea, policies that really just didn’t feel like it would be the best fit for us at this time.

One of my favorite movies is Sound of Music.  I think I could watch it every day and not get tired of it!! But one of my favorite scene (one of many) is when Maria leaves the Abbey and says “When God closes a door, somewhere He opens a window.”  I can remember watching this movie as a child and not understanding what that meant, but now, I feel like it is such a part of my.  Such a part of my soul.  From relationships, to majors in college, to jobs, to starting our family.  Look back there were several closed doors, and always an open window.  So while the door to South Korea was closing, God opened the window of an adoption agency in Kansas.

The Adoption Centre of Kansas, Inc is in many ways like our agency here in Tennessee.  Smaller, Christian based, and came highly recommended from our social worker.  We have spoke with them and excited to be one of their official waiting families! So know a little more of what our journey has the potential to look like (and I am sure it will change a thousand times!), but it is calming to know right now.

So just a little update on the adoption front! Still waiting, and expect to be for a while longer, but an update! We appreciate all the love and prayers that we have gotten! So thankful for the support of our family and friends!

Sara - I can’t remember how I originally found your blog but I’ve been reading for awhile. Congrats on your adoption journey…it’s one of the best roller coasters you will ever ride. You should also look into an adoption consultant…they are great at helping speed up your process with very little investment. Our consultant is Susan at Christian Adoption Consultants. She has a great blog… http://www.gracefilledmess.blogspot.com

Rebecca Walker - Hey Sara! I don’t know how you found me either, but I am glad you did! We haven’t even heard of an adoption consultant, but will definitely take a look into it! Thank you so much for reading!
