Texture Tuesday | Dear Birth Mom

Me being an emotional person mostly works to my advantage.  I feel deeply, passionately, and fully.  It has helped me in my relationships, careers, and life.  Most of the time, I love this about myself! The older I have gotten, the more I appreciate my ability to love and feel.  With our adoption and our journey to meet our child, I feel like my emotions are at all times about to burst open!  I feel like I am the definition of OVERWHELMED! Mostly in a good way, too.  I get so emotional about thinking the first time we will meet our birth mother, the first time we get that call to say that we have been chosen to parent a child, our child, the first time we set out to travel to meet that gift, and the first time we meet that sweet baby that we were chosen to love.  See, that is so much to feel on a day to day basis, so to help me deal and channel all that love, excitement, happiness, nervousness, and anticipation, I have started writing letters to our future birth mom.  No, we haven’t been chosen yet, but I wanted to document this journey, this waiting, this love someway.  Writing seems to be the best way to do so!

So I have been writing, typing, and jotting down thoughts, prayers, and emotions that I want to remember, that I want to share with our future friend, and our child’s birth mom.  Now, these letters are beyond personal to me, so I am not quite ready to share, and maybe never will.  But the last several days, this woman, that I cannot wait to meet has been heavy on my heart, and I wanted to share.

Our amazing adoption agency has classes at the end of each month to help us learn more about adoption, what to expect, and to connect with other adoptive parents.  Last night in our class, they shared a few things that got the whole class in tears (well all the ladies!!).  I wanted to share this poem with y’all! This is written by a birth mother about her equally important role in her son’s life as her son’s adoptive parents.

Teamwork

I gave you a mouth–

They’ll help you say what you feel.

I gave you arms–

They’ll teach you to hug.

I gave you legs–

They’ll help you run after your dreams.

I gave you eyes–

They’ll teach you to look deeper.

I gave you ears–

They’ll help you to listen to every word.

I gave you a heart–

They’ll teach you to love.

I gave you a life–

They’ll teach you to live it.

SO here is another Texture Tuesday with my thoughts on this amazing, selfless, future birth mom that is on my heart today, and everyday.

Kori Luckett - Just wait for the emotions that come after becoming a mom! Stories on the news movies effect me more now than they ever did before. The worries you have are they getting enough sleep is she eating the right things? I’m lucky to have Geoff to keep my head on straight :)

Nashville, TN Wedding Photographer | Lindsey & Brandon {Wedding}

Oh my have I been looking forward to Brandon and Lindsey’s wedding for so long! From the moment I met Lindsey at our first meeting, we just clicked! We ended up talking for over two hours about wedding, life, and our excitements about being in love with the perfect man! We just couldn’t stop talking about everything.  When I think of my ideal client, she is pretty much the perfect example! Happy, in love, excited, and photography was very important to her! She booked me as soon as her date was officially booked, and I couldn’t be happier.  What I love about getting to meet my brides early in the planning process, is I get to form a relationship with them, help in their planning, and just get to go along with the excitement of the process! All things that make me so happy!

Lindsey and Brandon got married at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville.  The church was breath taking! The area around it was amazing, and we had the perfect weather to get some amazing pictures outside on their day.  The pictures of Lindsey and Brandon’s first look is one of my favorites that I have shot at a wedding! And then the pictures of them afterwards, oh my, I am in love with their love, their moments, their laughter.  It was my favorite part of the day.  Their wedding ceremony was even more special since Brandon’s Grandfather was the one preforming this special ceremony.  They then had the best party/reception at Cannery Ballroom.  I hope these images from there day retell such an amazing wedding day and night! Take a look!

I cannot be more thankful to be apart of this amazing day! March 9 was the perfect day for Brandon and Lindsey’s wedding, and I am so thankful that I was able to be apart of this gorgeous and fun wedding day!

Texture Tuesday | Confessions of a Horrible Speller

I have vivid memories of practicing my spelling words as a child in elementary school.  I can remember hating spelling and questions why words weren’t spelled how they sounded.  Regardless of the countless hours that my mama made me practice those dreadful spelling words, I still am a horrible speller.  While I was teaching, I used this to my advantage, because I would use my weakness as an example for my students.  Use it as an opportunity to show them how to use a dictionary or how a weakness doesn’t mean you aren’t smart or capable!  But now, now that I am not teaching a group of kindergarten through third graders, and the majority of my readers are grownups that have learned to spell successfully, I feel more self conscious about this weakness.

 (Already, my spell check has autocorrected, advantage, opportunity, kindergarten, and conscious)

Publicly, I am putting my thoughts out into the world, my weaknesses, and fearing that I am being scrutinized (another spell checked word!) by my readers.  If putting my pictures, my work, my art, my passion out there on the world wide web wasn’t hard enough, I also put my words. So here is my confession.  I know that I am a bad speller.

(I didn’t even see the misstake at first in this! Did you?)

I have several of my “people” on blog standby to let me know if I have a spelling error after I publish. They are like my editors.  It’s not that I don’t proof read my blogs.  It is the complete opposite!! I will read one of my blogs, at least, 7 times before I hit publish.  Knowing my weakness, I tend to overcompensate (I got that one right!). The worst is when spell check doesn’t even recognize what I am trying to spell! So frustrating, that I just keep sounding it out, trying to spell it either until google figures out what I need to spell. Or I will change my sentence completely so that I can use a different word.  Aggg! So frustrating.

So as apart of this Texture Tuesday, I am putting out a small confession.  One of the many, many weaknesses that I have, that I embrace, that I am okay with.  Just don’t judge 😉 I won’t appreciate that much!

index of commonly misspelled words in my world:

restaurant

inconvenience

accommodate

massage

conscience

license

alcohol

referred

reference

schedule

vacuum

scissors

just to name a few!!!

I hope everyone has a fabulous Tuesday!

Lucy Lee - This is just part of what makes you you! Wonderful, wonderful you! But it does drive ME crazy!

March 19, 2013 - 11:37 am

Kori Luckett - Don’t let people fool you. They can’t spell either and the one’s that are really good at spelling are probably not very creative. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. That is what make us us :)

Nashville, TN Wedding Photographer | Lindsey {Bridals}

I have been dying, DYING to share these images! I have been impatiently, patiently waiting to publish these till after Lindsey and Brandon who got married on March 9! Lindsey is such a classic beauty, and I loved being apart of their wedding day.  She has been glowing with love and happiness since the first time I met her.  From that moment, I know that I wanted to be the one to capture her and Brandon’s amazing day! Luckily, I had been able to share the joys and excitements of Lindsey’s wedding planning process.  When Lindsey showed me the possible dresses, I was excited.  When she showed me THE dress, I couldn’t stop smiling.  Lindsey couldn’t stop smiling!! But when I saw her in her dress, hair done, makeup on, I lost my words.  She was perfection from head to toe.  At that moment, I couldn’t wait to capture Brandon’s expression on their wedding day!!! So without further ado! Here is the timeless, stunning, amazingly gorgeous Lindsey!!

Stay tuned on Thursday to see the full wedding day blog!!! I cannot wait to show you all the amazing moments from Brandon and Lindsey’s day!

Nashville, TN Wedding & Couple Photographer | Hannah & Jason {Couples}

I have said it so many times, but I love photographing a couple in love! Hannah and Jason were no different! They are getting married this September, and it was so amazing to be able to get outside and capture their love and happiness.  We were so lucky to shoot on one of those crazy, nice days in February this winter.  As much as I love snow (and snow days when I was teaching!) I truly love that we have such a mild winter.  It means I get to get outside more in the winter and shoot amazing people.  And that makes me happy! Take a look at this sweet engagement session with Hannah and Jason (and their little pup too!)
